The Center for Distance Education is pleased to offer the non-credit Online@State Orientation class which is available to all new undergraduate and graduate students entering online degree programs. This four-day course takes less than five hours to complete and can be completed during your free time. It is not necessary to log in during a specific time of day, but students are encouraged to log in each day.
Undergraduate students must complete this course in order to be released to register for classes.
Orientation Class Highlights
#1. Welcome to Online@State Orientation
Students will be introduced to myCourses while teaching them about Mississippi State University. Just as in traditional courses, they will have the opportunity to introduce themselves, learn about the Honor Code and Student Services, and take a syllabus quiz.
#2. Online Learning Readiness
Students will have the opportunity to take the SmarterMeasure learning readiness indicator. This is a web-based diagnostic tool that indicates the degree to which an individual student possesses attributes, skills and knowledge that contribute to success in online learning.
#3. Library Resources
The library has many resources available for online students and provides a web hunt for students to familiarize themselves with library resources.
#4. Departmental Resources
Distance programs provide students with program-specific information.
