The online Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology curriculum is designed to prepare you for employment leading to supervisory and management positions in the production, process, automation or maintenance areas of industry. The role of the Industrial Technology graduate is to facilitate ideas from senior management to the production floor. Completion of the four-year online curriculum provides an excellent background in science, mathematics, design and human relations. This is coupled with the practical use of automated machinery and the associated tools, as well as knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes, materials and logistics.

Some courses require students to participate in on-campus workshops. Workshops are held four Saturdays per semester. Courses with this requirement are denoted with an asterisk (*) in the program structure.

Program highlights:

  • 124 hours are required to complete the program.
  • Transfer up to 62 hours from an accredited community college or accredited four-year university
  • This program is not completely online. Some courses require students to participate in on-campus workshops, which will be held on our Starkville, MS, campus during four Saturdays in the semester.
  • Five concentrations are available: 1) Industrial Automation 2) Manufacturing & Maintenance Management 3) Industrial Coatings 4) Industrial Packaging 5) Process Technology

The BSINDT degree program prepare individuals to work in many industrial roles, including management, maintenance, day-to-day operation and improvement of manufacturing processes, fixed automation, robotics, and the troubleshooting of automated systems.

This degree may be for you if you have an associate degree in a technical field or if you’re working in a technical field in industry and want to advance your career into the areas of management and supervision.

Program Structure

To graduate with a degree in Industrial Systems, a student must:

  • Complete a minimum of 124 hours
    • Up to 62 hours transferred from an accredited community college may count toward the degree
    • 62 hours must be from an accredited four-year university
    • 36 hours must be upper-level (3000 and above) emphasis area course work
    • The final 32 hours of course work must come from MSU
  • Students must have a 2.00 MSU GPA, and a 2.00 overall GPA in order to graduate

New Admissions

If you have never attended Mississippi State University, please complete the online Undergraduate Admissions Application. All new admits will pay a non-refundable application fee online.

  • If you are interested in the Online Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Program and wish to have your transcripts evaluated, send transcript copies to the Industrial Technology program Coordinator. Include with these transcripts a valid phone number and email address.
  • You will choose Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology as your major and Online Education as your campus.
  • Request that official ACT or SAT scores be sent to MSU.
  • Request that your high school send your official transcript. Faxed transcripts will not be accepted.
  • Submit a separate official final transcript from each college or university attended; faxed transcripts will not be accepted. An applicant may not ignore previous college attendance and must list all colleges attended on the application for admission. You must be in good standing at the last college or university attended.
  • If you are able to submit official transcripts and other documentation electronically, you may send them to admit@msstate.edu.

Academic Advising

After gaining admission to the university, you must contact your advisor to determine the courses that are most appropriate for you to take. Before the upcoming semester, your advisor will send an email to your MSU account, making course recommendations based on your program of study. Virtual individual and group advising sessions may also take place.

On Campus Workshops

Some of the courses in the Industrial Technology program require on campus workshop sessions. Each course will have four (4) on campus workshop sessions per semester, which will be on a Saturday. The dates of these sessions can be found on the master class schedule. Workshop sessions are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
