Transfer Credit Evaluation Request

Any current BOMP student interested in applying transfer credits to their B.S. Degree or BOMP certificate through MSU Geosciences Distance Education Department can request a transfer credit evaluation by completing and submitting an Evaluation Form.

By completing the Evaluation Form you are requesting to have your transcripts be evaluated for the B.S. degree in Geosciences from MSU. Please know that it is your responsibility to provide MSU with all official college/university transcripts in addition to any CCAF (military), or CLEP examination scores before an evaluation can be completed.

Evaluations will not be completed until all transcripts have been provided. If you have already submitted your transcript in the MSU application portal when you first applied to MSU, then we can begin your transfer credit review process. If you did not submit your transcript in the MSU application portal when you first applied to MSU, your previous institutions can submit them to MSU Admissions at Admit@msstate.edu. Official transcripts can also be sent to the MSU Registrar at registrar@registrar.msstate.edu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I send an unofficial transcript?

According to the MSU Registrar, unofficial transcripts are not accepted. Mississippi State University does not accept transcripts issued to the student, mailed by the student, or faxed copies. We will only accept a hand-delivered copy of the official transcript if it is unopened in a sealed envelope from the transfer institution.

How do I see if my transfer credits will apply to my degree?

According to the MSU Registrar, students with transfer credit must submit an official transcript from all institutions attended. The Office of the Registrar will add transfer courses to your MSU record, and then your advisors will determine if your transfer credit will apply toward your degree requirements. At times, your advisor may also request a syllabus for review.

How long will it take to review my transfer credits and apply them to my MSU student record?

The transfer credit process is very lengthy as it involves the Department of Geosciences, the Dean's Office, the Provost's Office, and the Registrar's Office. As a result, please plan on an estimated four to six weeks after you submit your request form to evaluate your transfer credits. During peak times in the academic calendar and holidays, the process may take additional time. Thank you in advance for your patience.

How will I know when the transfer credit process is completed?

All transfer credit updates will be listed in Banner > Degree Works. After four-six weeks, you can check Degree Works to see these updates. If you do not see any updates six weeks after you submit your request form, please contact the Department of Geosciences at yjacobs@geosci.msstate.edu.
