Community of Practice

The online faculty community of practice at the Center for Distance education strives to bring together all faculty at Mississippi State University who want to learn more about what it means to teach online and how to improve their online teaching. We welcome new online faculty, established online faculty, and those who are thinking about teaching online to meet with us on the second Thursday of most months from 2:00 – 3:00 to discuss topics that are important in the world of online teaching. We encourage you to bring your questions, topics of interest, pain points, and discussions to a friendly and open forum where everyone works together to achieve the overarching goal of improving our collective online teaching expertise. All meetings for the 2020 – 2021 academic year will be conducted through Webex, and the schedule is as follows:

  • September 10th – Lecture: The Content Collection
  • October 8th – Activities and Labs: The Engagement
  • November 12th – Testing: The Assessment
  • February 11th – Papers, Presentations, and Projects: The Big 3
  • March 11th – Outside Tools: The Other Stuff
  • April 8th – Teaching Philosophy and Reflection: The End (Not Really)
